This is sort of a follow on to someone's earlier thread about what 3d creation tool to use. I really like Caligari's interface and tool set. Caligari's always spamming me with special offers on truespace 6 and also gamespace. I'm undecided as to which one to get. Rise of nations for mac download.

I'm currently working on a 2D game, so I need to be able to render nice looking animations and models for game art. But in the future I plan to do some 3D games that will require some nice poly models. I can get good deals on either of the two products, but I can really only get one. I've tried downloading the old trial version of truespace 3, and gamespace light, but it didn't really give me a good view of what would really be best for actual use. Does anyone have any thoughts on which tool is right for me? I'm currently working on a 2D game, so I need to be able to render nice looking animations and models for game art. But in the future I plan to do some 3D games that will require some nice poly models. If you're looking to do both, and it's a choice between TrueSpace and GameSpace, I'd go for the former and pick up a copy of (say) Ultimate Unwrap 3D to help skin the 3D game models.

TrueSpace will allow you to model your 3D pieces as well as create your static 2D images/scenes/animations, whereas GameSpace focuses on the models.GameSpace review:TrueSpace gamePak review. I've had gameSpace from the beginning. I would NOT recommend it because its not a mature product. Moreover, the I don't believe there are enough people using the product to make it viable.Based on the number of marketing campains targeting gameSpace owners to switch to trueSpace, I would guess the product does not have a future?

That said, I have really no idea?I do know that the gameSpace support is not all that good, the product has a lot of issues and glitches, and I've yet to work with a graphic artist that uses it! I recommend 3D Studio Max if you can afford it.Good Luck! I did purchased TS 4.3Is a nice tool.I have it like taking dust in the shelves. I plainly don't like the bones handling. For, me, much more functional and faster the Blender ones.I know it's been said a lot, but blender with Ben Omari's x exporter and Der Ton's md5 exporter, (specially this last one, if you are able to code a loader for your engine, which you would need anyway.) is very good to go.

And it has lots of rendering features. Yup, is really hard to learn.some never even get to see the end of the road. But is capable of the stuff. The doc section at their site is very important.Probably the newest TS, 7.x version, is really much better than a 4.x or 5.x.

Do check the demo, maybe you could be intesterested in using more bucks and go for it and gamepak if needed for that version.Oh, TS today have a quite nice rendering.I yet prefer way much Cinema. Besides I find more logical the UI, is that I se more power, better done in most aspects. Also, the TS demos tend to crash a lot, but also does the old free TS 3.2, 2.0 and 1.0 which i used for long before purchasing 4.3, which also crashes, and they tended to have solid problemso or rare functioning of the undo.Anyway, it's an interesting package. Not my choice, but that means nothing. Seen great stuff done with it, like with any package (just check 'Elephant Dream' movie made with Blender.you wont believe it.)Anim8or, easiest to learn free package ever (probably not of the power of Blender but.depends on how you look at it, is a quite interesting thing ) is adding in beta now the ability to build plugins for it, among it, it'll have exporters, and now has already a basic exporting plugin for ppl to know how it works.Go to anim8or.com, download the beta and the pdf manual. The beta forums have important info if you'r curious. In the TS 4.3 times it was a clever choice, now.with Blender and Anim8or.I don't see why do it anymore.Yet tho, I see more reason for the TS 7, but I'd have to check now the TS 7 to give a serious opinion.if the bone system have not changed.bad.probably it has.gamespace Light.I downloaded it long ago. Among other stuff, 500 tris limit per character (I guess is linked with the bone system or something) 5000 per level mesh to export.

I suppose no or quite limited rendering features, like GM full.Anyway, you rearely will go wrong with a package if u take the time to find the workarounds. My favourite is Max. And is what I'm asked to use allways at jobs. For modelling no, is allways Wings. The ts 3.2 free is yet available, I hope u know that. U can access surely a bit hard inside the Caligari site, I think it was hosted at Download.com or something like that. It's rendering is quite elder, tho.Blender is better than that, but true that blender has some stuff so non-updated that some of the oldest packages can be superior in that, just cause blender authors hasn't worked in that lineBut sure there are workarounds.
