1. Render Settings After Effects

So I'm having problems playing the game 'Payday 2' and figured out it was a problem with my screen resolution. The default Payday 2 reso isn't supported by my system. So I tried opening renderersettings.xml and I edited the default resolution to my computers to get it to work. That didn't work so I restarted my computer (I have to to regain control of it) and now I want to edit the resolution again because I have found a better resolution that might work.

Well when I open my renderersettings.xml it's blank. Can someone please explain why and how to fix this issue.
