Sometimes a nice loop soundscape can sit well below a section of a song.I would normally have to use my hardware Infinity looper from Pigtronix. This can be problematic though when using amp sims. I may want to add distortion to my sound, but not want the whole loop processed in gain. Hi Ashoke, thanks for mentioning another Amos sim. I will try S-Gear. I was using he term preamp pretty loosely.
The pedal I mentioned is a guitar pedal. No impedence issues. This particular pedal has tubes in it. I meant preamp as in I just leave the pedal on all the time. It’s the base to my tone. You can try this with a number of guitar pedals.
For instance, for high gain sounds I tend to use the Empress Heavy pedal into an amp sim. I use the amp sim for a little saturation, but most of the gain comes from the pedal before the interface. Nice article! I was wondering if I could impose by asking some questions.
I am on the fence about either buying a midi controller for my pedals or something like the Helix. I do some studio work at home for everything from commercial to jazz stuff. I am getting nice sounds but I am skeptical if they are really cutting the mustard. Is there any of these modelers that you mentioned that you prefer above all?

For cleaner sounds I really like the Fuchs Train II model. To me there is a big jump from a lot of the other ones to the UAD sims. My fav’s are the Fuchs, the Fender tweed and the Marshall Plexi.
I can cover a lot of bases with those. I do believe they sound better the the Helix or other options. Short of using a real amp, this is the route I go.Sometimes I will put a preamp like the Effectrode Tubedrive before the interface to color the sound in a flattering way. This can really help a lot.
