Chrome Updates Are Disabled By Your Administrator
For the last two months I have been unable to turn on windows update. Control panel says 'Windows Update has been disabled by your system administrator'. There is only one user on the computer, and that is me, and I have administrator privileges. I wasworking fine for about one year.

Now I have to remember to check for updates manually every once in a while. I can download and install them.The computer is a personal desktop which has never been attached to a network, so no group policy could be coming into play. The computer is otherwise clean and healthy.On the support pages I found a program which was supposed to fix this (Fix-it (Reset Windows Components):), but when I ran it, nothing changed, even in aggressive mode. My restore points do not go back far enough (it took a while for me to notice therewere no updates). Is there manual registry edit I can make? Are you and SilviaC the same person and is this thread about the same computer as in?What anti-virus application is installed now.?Yes, that was me. I didn't see the last reply so started a new thread with a better description to get more ideas.BTW, the registry item HKEYLOCALMACHINESoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftWindowsWindowsUpdate doesn't exist on my machine.I have been running Panda Cloud Antivirus.I hadn't installed any new software for months, only updates to existing, so don't know what could have caused the original problem.

I've reinstalled almost all the old software, with no problems so far. By reinstalling one by one I will hopefully see ifanything I have caused the problem, but it's mostly things like Quicken and MS Office and the media reader for my public library books. Not really scary stuff.
Hi Scott,I recently switched my browser to Google Chrome, but it is terribly slow. You say it’s supposed to be fast so please advise something that will help. My ‘wrench’ only brings up ‘Toolbar Options’ so I clicked on the ‘Customize and Control’ icon, which had the same you mentioned/showed. I have the latest Chrome version (23) but it is still very, very slow.I like very much how I can play my YouTube videos (in full screen) without them freezing, like they did with Firefox, so please help!.Scott says.
